CAPITAL RAISING FOR STARTUPS is a highly interactive course for startup founders looking to raise capital. Participants will be equipped with the basic tools and knowledge to identify the capital raising instruments. They will be guided step-by-step towards creating a financial strategy and infrastructure for their venture. The course output is a capital raising plan that will be submitted to established angel investors for potential funding.

JAN 22, 2022: Introduction to Economics and Finance
We’ll begin with some key Economic and Financial concepts: Scarcity, Inflation, Discount Rates, GDP, Compound Interest and Real Return. The focus will be on how these different forces influence and affect the survival and growth of any business venture.
JAN 29, 2022: Quantitative Finance
We’ll discuss Time Value of Money concepts, then go through financial statements in detail and show the important insights that can be derived from each statement.
FEB 5, 2022: Financial Projections
Building upon the previous lessons, we’ll demonstrate how to make financial projections. This session aims to develop your ability to make realistic financial projections.
FEB 12, 2022: Capital Raising Tools
We’ll explore the sources of capital (debt, revenue and equity), the pros and cons of each, and how to effectively package all the information to raise the desired amount of capital.

Malaya “Aya” Laraya is a finance professional who has worked in virtually all the financial industries in the country: equities, managed funds, real estate, insurance, and startups. He is a Registered Financial Planner, a Certified Securities Representative, and a Certified Investment Solicitor. With a BS Management Engineering degree from Ateneo de Manila University and an MBA from the University of Western Australia, Aya has taught variety of courses in Ateneo, Australian Catholic University, Bradford College of UK’s EMBA Program, and the Philippine Stock Exchange. Aya is heavily involved in growing the country’s local startup ecosystem by giving talks, mentoring several enterprises, and co-chairing the Screening Committee of the Manila Angel Investors Network.
Alice Ann M. Parlisan is the Program Director for BS Management-Honors (BS MGT-H) Program and an Assistant Professor at the Finance and Accounting Department of the John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM) under the Ateneo De Manual University. She is a Finance Professional with over 35 years of corporate work experience in finance with involvements from both government and private sectors of the Philippines. Alice has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Economics (BSBE) from the University of the Philippines.
